‘Cats Net 5-2 A-10 Win vs. UMass, Win 8th Straight

DAVIDSON, N.C. —
The Davidson women's tennis team registered their third Atlantic 10 victory of the season by netting a 5-2 win at home vs. UMass, while also winning their eighth consecutive match overall Friday afternoon at the Davidson Tennis Courts.
 
The Wildcats (9-1 at home) moved their record to 11-2 on the year, 3-0 in A-10 play, and have won at least eight in a row for the second time in the past three years. They also recorded their first-ever victory against the Minutewomen (7-5, 1-1 A-10) in the all-time series.
 
"I'm so proud of this group of young ladies," said head coach Susanne Depka. "They impress me each and every day. Their focus and determination to continue to improve even under stressful situations is unbelievable. It's such a joy to be leading this team and its so much fun to be out there with them!"
 
Leading the way in doubles action was Anna Catharine Feaster and Megan Scholvinck at No. 1 with a 6-4 win to remain perfect on the season at 4-0. Samantha Armas and Alyssa Hahn sealed up the team point with a 6-3 victory at No. 2 to move to 3-0 on the season.
 
It was the eighth straight time the 'Cats started the match by winning the doubles point, while they pushed their team record to 26-13 (8-1 vs. A-10) overall in doubles matches.
 
Freshman Lindsay Song kept her perfect season intact by pacing the singles play, recording a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 5 to push her season record to 9-0 with a 3-0 mark in the A-10. It is the second-longest win streak on the team this season.
 
Gabrielle Centenari returned to the starting lineup and did not miss a beat, rolling to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 to run her win streak to a personal-best seven straight. She is 9-2 on the season.
 
The Wildcats final two team points came from the senior duo of Feaster and Ava Todd at No. 1 and 6 positions. Feaster won her seventh match of the year with a 6-0, 6-4 decision, while Todd improved to 8-2 with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph and remained unbeaten in league play at 3-0. She won her 20th in a row all-time in A-10 matches, sitting at 20-0 for her career.
 
Dropping her first singles match since the season opener at No. 5 North Carolina, Jan. 23, was sophomore Alexandra Abele. She saw her personal best and team season-best 11-match win streak come to an end after a 6-1, 6-2 setback at No. 3.
 
Davidson travels to Spartanburg, S.C., to face former Southern Conference foe Wofford on Sunday at 1 p.m.
