WILMINGTON, N.C. – Backcourt mates Kellan Grady and Jon Axel Gudmundsson scored 25 points each, to lead four Davidson players in double figures, as the Wildcats rallied past UNCW on the road, 91-85, Saturday evening at Trask Coliseum.
Luke Frampton, who drilled five of the Wildcats' 13 3-pointers, added a season-high 15 points, while Luka Brajkovic scored 13. Gudmundsson also finished a perfect 10-of-10 at the charity stripe to go along with 8 assists and 7 rebounds.
Trailing 61-54 with 10 minutes to play, Davidson (7-1) slowly chipped away at its largest deficit and retook the lead on a Brajkovic free throw, 68-67. Following a Ty Taylor 3-pointer the next trip down, the Wildcats grabbed control again with a 14-5 streak, highlighted by treys from Gudmundsson and Grady, to push the margin back to seven and put the game out of reach.
As a team, Davidson torched the nets for 56.9 percent (.652 second half), including 44.8 percent (13-29) from long range.
In a game that featured 7 ties and 12 lead changes, the two teams combined for 51 fouls and 54 free throw attempts. The 'Cats converted 20-of-26 at the line, while the Seahawks, who attempted two more, shot just 60.7 percent (17-28).
After Davidson built a 21-13 advantage, which included five 3-pointers, UNCW (4-5) responded with a 14-2 spurt to grab its first lead, 27-23. The Wildcats, who had five players with two fouls each in the first 20 minutes, closed the half on an 11-3 run to go into the break up, 39-34.
Like the Wildcats, UNCW placed four in double digits, led by Devontae Cacok's 19 points and 13 rebounds.
