DURHAM, N.C.  — Davidson closed out a four-match road trip by taking a 6-1 decision at North Carolina Central Sunday afternoon in men's tennis at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
Â
The Wildcats won for the sixth time in the past eight matches to move to 15-6 on the season, while sending the Eagles to 6-12 overall. The four-match road swing was the second one on the season for Davidson.
Â
For the fourth time this year, Davidson swept all three doubles positions to grab the first point of the match. The duo of Axel Fries and J.B. Gough rebounded after Saturday's defeat at Richmond that snapped their eight-match winning streak to net a 6-3 win at No. 1. The duo is now 15-4 overall.
Â
David Hager and Shamael Chaudhry teamed together at No. 2 and won their second straight, a 7-5, decision, while Ricky Saad and Jack Riazzi won their first match together at No. 3 with a 6-3 victory.
Â
Five of the six singles slots were won by Davidson to seal up the match. Fries won his team-best 16th match with a 6-4, 7-5 decision at No. 3, while Hager moved to 15-5 after pulling out a tough three-set match (6-1, 5-7, 7-6) at No. 2.
Â
Gough rolled to his fourth straight win at No. 4, taking a 6-3, 6-1 decision. He is now 12-5 on the season, 7-3 at the fourth spot.
Â
Saad and freshman Thomas Mason netted the final two team points. The senior Saad secured a 6-2, 6-3 win to run his record to 4-1 on the season. Mason gave up just two games in a 6-1, 6-1 win for his sixth victory overall at No. 6.
The five singles wins gave the Wildcats 80 overall on the season as they improved to 80-37.
Â
Davidson is off until April 13 when it takes on UNCG at home.
