DAVIDSON, N.C. – Despite a game-high 24 points from Peyton Aldridge, Davidson suffered a 76-69 setback to George Mason, Wednesday evening at Belk Arena.
Jalen Jenkins led four Patriots in double figures with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting, while Marquise Moore finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Trailing 57-51 with 7:47 to play, the Wildcats went on a 12-2 run highlighted by seven straight points from Aldridge, to grab their largest lead, 63-59. George Mason responded with an 11-2 spurt capped off by a Moore trey to retake the lead for good.
In addition to shooting 57.7 percent after intermission, George Mason (16-8, 6-5 A-10) finished 17-of-18 from the free-throw line, including 13-for-13 in the second half.
Davidson (12-10, 5-6 A-10) also shot better than 50 percent in the second half, but went to the line just nine times and connected on just 7-of-27 from long range.
Aldridge was joined in double figures by Will Magarity (15) and Jack Gibbs (12), while KiShawn Pritchett handed out seven assists for the Wildcats.
Both teams struggled from the floor in the opening 20 minutes before Mason headed to the half up, 31-29.
