Gibbs’ 27 Not Enough as Wildcats Fall at VCU, 74-60

RICHMOND, Va. – JeQuan Lewis scored 27 points and Justin Tillman added a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds to lead VCU past Davidson, 74-60, in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Saturday at the Siegel Center.
The Rams shot 59.3 percent after intermission to finish at 47.3 percent, while holding the 'Cats to just 37.9 percent.
Despite the setback, Jack Gibbs paced Davidson (12-11, 5-7 A-10) with 27 points and a season-high 9 boards.
VCU (20-5, 10-2 A-10) used a 16-5 run midway through the second half to grab control and eventually stretched the margin to as many as 16 with under a minute to play.
The Wildcats, who entered 18th nationally in free-throw percentage, converted just 10-of-21 at the line.
Despite leading by eight on separate occasions in the opening half, Davidson went scoreless for more than six minutes before trailing at the break, 31-28. With the Wildcats up, 26-18, VCU closed the period on a 13-2 spurt.
Mo Alie-Cox also finished in double figures for the Rams with 10 points.
