DAVIDSON, N.C. – Rhode Island closed on a 28-8 run to rally past Davidson, 70-59, in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Friday evening at Belk Arena.
Despite the setback, Will Magarity scored a career-high 19 points to go along with 8 rebounds for the Wildcats, who shot just 35.2 percent, including 4-of-24 from long range.
After Davidson (12-9, 5-5 A-10) built a 51-42 advantage with 11:13 to play, the Rams responded with their game-changing streak, highlighted by 11 of E.C. Matthews' game-high 21 points.
Jeff Dowtin (19) and Jared Terrell (11) also scored in double figures for Rhode Island (15-7, 7-3 A-10), while Kuran Iverson hauled in 13 rebounds.
In a first half that featured 7 ties and 9 lead changes, Davidson reeled off six unanswered to go up 30-24, before the Rams closed with a small spurt to take a 34-33 lead into the break.
Jack Gibbs (12) and Jon Axel Gudmundsson (10) joined Magarity in double digits.
The Rams finished the game at 42.6 percent and hit 8-of-17 3-pointers.
