DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to erasing a 13-point second-half deficit, Dayton got 11 straight points from Scoochie Smith to begin overtime as the Flyers rallied past Davidson, 89-82, in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Friday at Belk Arena.
Despite the setback, Peyton Aldridge and Jack Gibbs scored 27 points each for the Wildcats, who shot 49.2 percent, but made just 11-of-19 from the charity stripe.
Tied 56-56 with 13:58 to play, Davidson (14-13, 7-9 A-10) outscored the Flyers 14-1 over the next 6 minutes and 28 seconds to grab the largest lead for either team, 70-57. Dayton responded and closed the second half on a 17-4 spurt to force the extra session.
The Wildcats, who were held without a field goal for more than 7 minutes during the Flyers' late run, had a chance to win at the end of regulation, but Gibbs missed a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining.
Kendall Pollard paced Dayton (23-5, 14-2 A-10) with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Smith, Charles Cooke and Xeyrius Williams scored 17 points apiece.
Dayton, which got to the line 45 times, shot 48 percent overall and drilled 10-of-22 from behind the arc.
After Davidson built a 38-31 advantage late in the first half, the Flyers, who went 19-of-23 from the line in the period, responded with a 15-4 run before going to the break up, 46-45.
Aldridge led all players at the half with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting.
Coming off a personal-best 16 points, Jon Axel Gudmundsson also scored in double figures for the Wildcats with 10 points.
The Flyers finished with a 42-31 margin on the glass.

Davidson will conclude its home slate with a 7 p.m. "Senior Day" contest against St. Bonaventure Tuesday evening.
