AMHERST, Mass. – Jack Gibbs scored 24 of his game-high 32 points in the first half as Davidson held on for a 79-74 victory at Massachusetts, Saturday inside the Mullins Center.

In addition to his 16th career 30-point effort, Gibbs finished 11-of-18 from the floor, including six of the Wildcats' nine 3-pointers, while recording 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

Davidson (14-11, 7-7 A-10) used a 10-2 spurt midway through the second half to stretch the margin back to double digits and didn't allow the Minutemen closer than three the rest of the way.

Peyton Aldridge contributed his ninth career double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds for the 'Cats, while frontcourt mate Andrew McAuliffe added a personal-best 14 points, filling in for the injured Will Magarity.

After UMass used a 13-1 run to erase a 12-point deficit and tie the score, 26-26, Gibbs responded with 10 straight for the Wildcats, who led 38-33 at the half.

Both teams finished with 40 rebounds.

DeJon Jarreau led three UMass (13-14, 3-11 A-10) players in double figure with 18 points. Seth Berger and Donte Clark added 16 points each.
