BLACKSBURG, Va. — Playing their second doubleheader of the season, this time on the road, the Davidson men's tennis team split their two matches in a neutral site matchup vs. St. Bonaventure (W, 6-1) and at Virginia Tech (L, 1-6) Saturday on the campus of the Hokies.

Davidson (7-2, 2-0 A-10) saw its season-high six-match win streak come to an end vs. Va. Tech (3-2), but won its second Atlantic 10 match of the year earlier with the victory against St. Bonaventure (3-4, 0-1 A-10).

The day started off strong for the 'Cats by sweeping the doubles point vs. the Bonnies. The No. 1 team of J.B. Gough and Axel Fries won their third straight with a 6-3 win, while Shamael Chaudhry and Jack Riazzi scored a 6-2 victory at No. 2 to win their team-best fourth in a row.

David Hager and Artem Khrapko teamed up for the second time this year and closed it out with a 6-3 win at No. 3.

Singles went much the same, led by freshman Fries at No. 4. The first-year player scored a 7-5, 6-4 victory for his sixth consecutive win.

Chaudhry (6-1, 6-0), Hart (6-2, 6-1) and Thomas Mason (6-2, 7-6) each won in straight sets at No. 1, 6 and 5 positions. Gough earned the last team point with a three-set victory at No. 3 after a 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 decision.

The lone team point in the second match of the day vs. the Hokies came from Fries, who won his seventh straight match by taking a three setter at No. 5 (6-2, 4-6, 7-6). The freshman is a team-best 8-1 on the year.

Hager dropped his first singles match of the season against Virginia Tech, suffering a 6-0, 6-2 setback at No. 2. He had opened the year winning his first seven straight matches and dating back to last season, had won a personal-best 10 in a row overall.

Chaudhry and Gough both had their singles streaks halted at six and five straight, respectively, in the second match of the day.

Davidson (6-1) plays host to Presbyterian next Saturday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m.
