HONOLULU, Hawaii – Kellan Grady scored a season-high 30 points, including 24 in the second half, to lead Davidson past Akron, 91-78, on the final day of the 2017 Diamond Head Classic.
A freshman from Boston, Mass., Grady finished 12-of-19 from the floor, including five of the Wildcats' 13 3-pointers.
As a team, Davidson (5-6) shot 58.6 percent after intermission to finish its first-ever Christmas Day contest at 53.2 percent.
Peyton Aldridge (16), KiShawn Pritchett (14) and Oskar Michelsen (11) also scored in double figures for the Wildcats. In addition, Jon Axel Gudmundsson just missed a triple-double for the second time this season with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.
Grady scored the first eight points of the second half as the 'Cats grabbed control and eventually pushed their lead to as many as 17, 64-47, with 12:28 left.
Akron (6-5), which drilled 14 treys of its own, had three 20-point scorers. Jimond Ivey led the way with 25, Daniel Utomi had 22 and Malcolm Duvivier added 21.
Trailing 23-16, the Wildcats used a 12-3 run to erase a slow start before heading to the half up, 39-34.
