Aldridge Hits Milestone, Scores 37 in 'Cats' 108-81 Win Over UNCW

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In addition to scoring his 1,500th career point, Peyton Aldridge poured in a personal-best 37 points (26 first half) to lead Davidson past UNCW, 108-81, in non-conference men's basketball action Tuesday evening at Belk Arena.
A senior from Leavittsburg, Ohio, Aldridge finished 15-of-24 from the floor, drilled four 3-pointers and grabbed 5 rebounds in 36 minutes. He was joined in double figures by freshman Kellan Grady (24), who hit the 20-point plateau for the second time in as many outings, sophomore Jon Axel Gudmundsson (19) and senior Rusty Reigel (11).
Davidson (2-0), which drilled a school-record 26 3-pointers in its season opener, shot 65.6 percent in the second half to finish at 56.5 percent (39-69), including 13 treys.
In addition, the Wildcats handed out 23 more assists, to give them 52 through the first two contests to just 7 combined turnovers.
After trading buckets early, Aldridge sparked a 14-3 run midway through the opening period with his first 3-pointer to put the 'Cats up, 31-18. The preseason all-conference selection closed the half with consecutive triples in the final 30 seconds to give Davidson a 50-32 lead at the break.
The Wildcats, who have hit the 100-point mark in each of their first two games, stretched their advantage to as many as 34 on a Gudmundsson 3-point play with 7:23 left.
Devontae Cacok paced the Seahawks (1-1) with 22 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
Both teams finished with 35 rebounds.
