DAYTON, Ohio – In a game that featured 13 lead changes and 8 ties, Dayton grabbed control with a 19-0 run midway through the second half to defeat Davidson, 80-74, in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Tuesday at Dayton Arena.
Following consecutive 3-pointers from Jordan Watkins to put the Wildcats in front, 46-45, Dayton responded with its game-changing spurt to put the game out of reach.
Davidson (10-5, 2-2 A-10), which trailed by as many as 19 with 6:51 to play, cut the deficit to 78-74 with 14 seconds left, but was unable to inch closer.
Despite the loss, Jack Gibbs led the Wildcats with a game-high 31 points, including 7 treys. Peyton Aldridge contributed a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Watkins added 11 points off the bench.
The 'Cats drilled 13 3-pointers, but finished the game shooting just 39.3 percent overall.
After a back-and-forth start to the opening half, Davidson erased a five-point deficit with a 14-4 run before going to the break up, 36-33.
Gibbs led all players with 18 points in the first period.
Scoochie Smith paced four Flyers in double figures with 18 points. Dyshawn Pierre also had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Kendall Pollard and Kyle Davis had 14 points each.
Dayton (13-3, 3-1 A-10) shot 58.6 percent in the second half, including 8-of-12 from long range, to conclude the game at 51.8 percent.
The Flyers finished with a 36-35 edge on the glass.
