DAVIDSON, N.C. — Freshman Ava Todd kept her personal singles win streak intact and the Davidson women's tennis team earned their second Atlantic 10 win of the year with a solid 6-1 decision over George Washington at home Saturday morning in the Knobloch Tennis Center.
The Wildcats ran their overall record to 7-4 and improved to 2-1 in league play. GW fell to 4-7 overall, 0-1 in A-10 action.
Helping the 'Cats grab an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point was the No. 2 team of Ally Sexton and Anna Catharine Feaster, and the No. 3 pair of Todd and Sara Stein. Sexton and Feaster improved to 9-2 with their second straight win by earning an 8-4 decision.
Todd and Stein collected their sixth win together with an 8-5 victory.
The freshman Todd, who was named the league's rookie performer of the week on Thursday, led the way in singles action by winning her 10th straight match with an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4. She is a team-best 10-1 on the season and 3-0 in league matches.
Feaster and Stein also scored singles wins at No. 2 and 3, respectively, with 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-4 decisions. They are both 7-4 on the season.
Jenna Brunner and Cassidy Shell gave Davidson its final two points with wins at the No. 5 and 6 positions. The junior Brunner took two sets by the scores of 6-2 for her sixth singles win of the year. Shell won her first set, 6-3, but lost in a tie-breaker, 7-5, in the second set. Since the team match had been decided, she played a super tie-breaker and prevailed 10-3 to also collect her sixth win of the season.
The 'Cats end the weekend with another A-10 match at home against Saint Joseph's Sunday starting at 10 a.m.
