BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Despite a game-high 19 points from Tyler Kalinoski, top-seeded Davidson suffered a 93-73 setback to VCU in the semifinals of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Tournament Saturday.
The Wildcats, who entered on a 10-game winning streak, will learn their NCAA Tournament fate tomorrow when selections are made at 6 p.m.
VCU (25-9) will take on Dayton in tomorrow's championship game at 1 p.m.
Kalinoski, the A-10 Player of the Year, paced three Davidson (24-7) players in double figures going 7-of-16 from the floor, including four 3-pointers. Jordam Barham and Jack Gibbs added 18 points each for the Wildcats, who shot just 42.1 percent and 7-of-26 from long range.
Davidson, which trailed by as many as 22 early in the second half, scored 16 unanswered to cut the deficit to five, 57-52, with 10:18 to play. VCU responded with 10 straight of its own to stretch the margin back to double digits and put the game out of reach.
Treveon Graham and Mo Alie-Cox led the Rams with 18 points each, while JeQuan Lewis and Terry Larrier contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively.
After Davidson raced out to a 16-4 lead, the Rams went on a 31-7 streak highlighted by six 3-pointers, before going to the break up 44-28. VCU drilled eight treys in the period, while holding the Wildcats to just 37.9 percent and 2-of-12 from deep.
In addition to finishing 25-of-30 from the charity stripe, VCU held a 40-30 advantage on the glass, including 13 offensive board that led to 16 second-chance points.
