WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jordan Barham scored all of his game-high 15 points in the second half and Tyler Kalinoski added 11 with 10 rebounds, to lead Davidson to a 65-63 win over George Washington, Wednesday evening at the Smith Center.
The Wildcats, who won their fourth straight improving to 18-6 overall and 9-4 in the league, shot 54.5 percent after intermission, while limiting the Colonials to just 36.7 percent overall.
After playing just four minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, Barham finished 7-of-8 from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds, including four at the offensive end.
Brian Sullivan finished with 12 points for the Wildcats, while Jack Gibbs, playing in his first game since Jan. 17, scored 11 in 14 minutes off the bench.
Trailing by eight at the break, Davidson opened the second half with five straight buckets, three from Barham and two from Peyton Aldridge, to take a 33-31 lead. Paul Jorgensen quickly put George Washington (17-9, 7-6 A-10) back on top with a 3-pointer before Gibbs answered at the other end with a triple of his own to put the Wildcats up for good.
GW had a chance to win the game on the final possession, but Kethan Savage's 3-point attempt at the buzzer was well off the mark.
Kevin Larsen and Patricio Garino paced four Colonials in double figures with 12 points each. Joe McDonald recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to go along with six assists, while John Kopriva chipped in 10.
In addition to holding Davidson scoreless for almost eight minutes, the Colonials closed the opening period on a 20-7 run to take a 31-23 lead into the break. George Washington trailed early, before running off 13 unanswered and holding the Wildcats to a season-low 27.3 percent in the first half.
The Colonials held a 41-38 edge on the glass.
Davidson returns home Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest against Fordham at John M. Belk Arena.
