CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Behind five players in double figures and a 52-31 advantage on the glass, No. 9/9 North Carolina defeated Davidson, 98-65, in non-conference men's basketball action Sunday at the Smith Center.
The setback was the first of the season for the Wildcats, who started 5-0 for the first time since the 1968-69 season.
North Carolina (7-1), which shot 50.7 percent, scored the first 10 points of the contest and stretched its lead to as many as 33, on separate occasions.
Nate Britt led the Heels with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting in 16 minutes of action. Justin Jackson (15), Brice Johnson (13), Marcus Paige (13) and Joel Berry also went over the 10-point plateau, while Kennedy Meeks pulled down a game-high 10 boards.
After shooting just 23.5 percent in the opening period, Davidson (5-1) finished the contest at 34.3 percent.
Coming off a career-high 41 points in his last outing, Jack Gibbs paced the Wildcats with 19 points. Jordan Barham and Brian Sullivan also finished in double figures for the 'Cats with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Davidson will begin play in the 2015 Gotham Classic Wednesday evening with an 8:30 p.m. contest against Eastern Washington at Belk Arena.
