PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Saint Joseph's erased a 13-point halftime deficit with a 20-3 run to start the second half as the Hawks rallied past Davidson, 75-70, in Atlantic 10 men's basketball action Saturday at Hagan Arena.
DeAndre' Bembry led the way for St. Joe's (9-11, 3-5 A-10) with 21 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists. He was joined in double digits by Aaron Brown (20), Isaiah Miles (13) and James Demery (10).
Peyton Aldridge and Brian Sullivan hit five 3-pointers each to lead three Wildcats in double figures with 24 and 17, respectively. Tyler Kalinoski, who shared Player of the Week honors with Bembry last week, turned in his fourth career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
After Davidson (14-5, 5-3 A-10) went up 57-56 on a Sullivan 3-pointer with 6:18 to play, St. Joe's took the lead for good with a 12-0 spurt highlighted by three consecutive treys, including a Miles' 4-point play as the shot clock expired.
Trailing 68-57 with less than two minutes remaining, Davidson chipped away and got to within two, 72-70, with 21 seconds remaining on another Sullivan three, but was unable to get closer.
The Hawks shot 60 percent in the final period to finish at 45.6 percent overall, while holding Davidson to just 39.1 percent.
Despite the setback the Wildcats hit 14 of their 33 attempts from long range.
Davidson responded to seven unanswered by the Hawks with a 17-2 run capped off by five straight triples to take a 34-22 lead. Aldridge, who drilled three consecutive during the spurt, hit another at the buzzer to give the Wildcats a 41-28 advantage at the break.
Saint Joseph's held a 46-33 margin on the glass.
Up next, Davidson returns home for three straight beginning with a 7 p.m. tip against St. Bonaventure Wednesday evening.
