DAVIDSON, N.C.  — Despite a game and season-high 26 points from Laura Murray, Davidson suffered a 76-62 setback to first-place Chattanooga in Southern Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at John M. Belk Arena.

With the win, the Mocs moved 18-3 overall with their 14th win in a row, while remaining unbeaten in league play at 10-0. They also won their 26th straight league game.

Murray finished with a career-high 10 field goals on 20 attempts from the floor, nailing a pair of three-pointers and making all four of her charity tosses, while recording her 28th career 20-point effort. Shneeka Center also finished in double figures for the Wildcats with 10 points to go along with six boards.

Taylor Hall scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the way for Chattanooga, which held a commanding 43-26 on the glass, including 16 on the offensive end that resulted in 17 second-chance points. Alex Black scored 11 of her 16 points in the first half to join Hall in double digits.

The Mocs shot 46.7 percent overall. They made 7-of-17 from long range and drilled 13 of their 15 tries from the free-throw line.

Davidson (10-11, 7-3 SoCon), second in the league standings, finished 25-of-59 (.424) from the floor and 7-of-10 at the line.

In addition to making its first six shots from the floor, two from behind the arc, and 10 of its first 12 overall, Chattanooga raced out to a 16-4 lead, highlighted by eight early points from Black. After a Murray trey cut the deficit to eight, 26-18, midway through the opening period, the Mocs closed the first half on a 17-7 spurt to take a 43-25 advantage into the break.

Chattanooga used a small run early in the second half to push the margin to as many as 22, 52-30, and didn't allow the Wildcats closer than 12 the rest of the way.

A pair of fastbreak layups by Murray had cut the deficit to 60-48 with 10:07 left, but UTC answered with a 7-2 run and never looked back.

Davidson takes a day off before hosting Samford Monday evening at 7 p.m. to finish out a two-game homestand.

GAME NOTES: Davidson saw its seven-game SoCon home winning streak come to an end … Murray has scored in double figures in all but one game this year and her 20-point outing was her 11th of the campaign … the Wildcats second and third-leading scorers, Hannah Early (9) and Dakota Dukes (6), combined for just 15 points, 14 below their combined averages on the year … UTC's Jasmine Joyner tied a school record with seven blocks.
