DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing its fifth match in a seven-day stretch, Davidson hosted Samford in women's tennis action and was not able to make it two straight wins in a row, falling 6-1 on Friday afternoon in Southern Conference play at Covington Tennis Courts.
Davidson dropped to 4-16 overall and 1-6 in league play, while Samford won its third conference road match in the last four to move to 12-5 overall and evened its league mark to 4-4.
Two days earlier after sweeping the doubles matches, the 'Cats found themselves on the wrong end of 8-4, 8-2 and 8-5 decisions at all three positions to drop the doubles point. Samford went on to take five of the six singles matches to seal up the team win.
Brites Moniz-Soares netted the Wildcats' lone win with a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 2 to improve to 12-5 on the year. She is 5-2 in league play.
Katharine Dicconson played a well-played singles match at No. 3, taking eight games in two sets, but fell in the end, 6-3, 7-5.
Davidson, 4-6 at home on the season, continues its busy schedule with another home match tomorrow, April 7, against Chattanooga at 12 p.m. The two teams battled to the end last year in a 4-3 win by the Mocs.
