DAVIDSON, N.C. — Playing for the first time since February 24, the Davidson women's tennis team was held to one singles win in falling in their Southern Conference opener to Elon at home by the score of 6-1 at the Covington Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.
Davidson fell to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in league play, while Elon improved to 11-4 and 2-1 in SoCon action.
The doubles duo of Brites Moniz-Soares and Katharine Dicconson ran their mark to 5-2 on the season with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2, but the Phoenix took 8-1 and 8-2 decisions at the other two doubles spots for the first point of the match.
Moniz-Soares was the lone 'Cat to score a win in singles play. The second-year player continued her strong season with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 to run her record to 7-3. The sophomore, who pushed her win streak to four in a row, is one win away from matching her total from a year ago.
Davidson remains at home, hosting Western Michigan next weekend, March 16, with a 3 p.m. match. The Wildcats will turn around and then play Boston, March 17, in Charleston, S.C., as part of a neutral site match.
