Fountain Finishes Fourth at Seahawk Intercollegiate

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Sophomore Richard Fountain earned his second consecutive top-five finish individually, leading Davidson to a seventh-place finish at 886 (296+294+296) Monday in a competitive field at UNC Wilmington's Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall.
Fountain fired his second consecutive even-par round of 72 on the 6,946-yard Nicklaus Course, finishing at three-under-par with 213 strokes (69+72+72) to tie with Thomas Birdsey of Wake Forest for fourth place. He finished four strokes ahead of Stephan Jaeger, the two-time defending Southern Conference Player of the Year who is ranked 10th in the nation in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin player rankings and is on the Ben Hogan Award Watch List.
Wesley Bryan of South Carolina won individual medalist honors at 209, seven-under-par. East Carolina took the team title with an even-par score of 864 (296+282+286). All six teams finishing ahead of Davidson (No. 117) were ranked in the Top 100 of the Golfweek/Sagarin team rankings. The Wildcats were in fourth place after two rounds Monday, but South Carolina (third, 875), UNCW (fifth, 880) and Liberty (sixth, 881) were all within three strokes and surpassed the 'Cats in the final round. Wake Forest was second (873) and 26th-ranked Chattanooga was fourth (879).
Sophomore Sam Echikson moved into the Top 20, matching Fountain's even-par 72 to finish the tournament in a tie for 18th at 225 (75+75+72), six-over-par. Junior John Skeadas slipped into a tie for 29th after firing a final-round 79 to finish at 225 (75+71+79). Freshman Ralph Blasey placed in a tie for 35th at 228 (77+76+75) and senior Jackson Taylor's final-round 77 factored into the 'Cats' team score.
Davidson will next compete at the Samford Intercollegiate at Hoover Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
