Wildcats Back on Winning Track, M. Tennis Defeats Charlotte 5-2

DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Davidson men's tennis got back on the winning side when they swept through the doubles play on their way to a 5-2 win over cross-county rival Charlotte on Wednesday afternoon at the Covington Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats (4-10) halted their five-match losing streak in scoring its 11th win vs. the 49ers (3-11) in the all-time series since 1988. They also stopped a three-match losing streak in the series.
The afternoon started with Davidson pulling out a pair of 8-6 wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles and then sweeping the three spots with an 8-5 decision at No. 2. Ethan Kallick and Walker Lyons scored their third straight win together at No. 2, while the teams of Calum Gee and Joe Schafer (No. 1) and Chris Mark and Kevin Moore (No. 3) scored their fourth and third wins, respectively, on the season.
Davidson continued its solid play in singles action, taking home wins at No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 for the win. The pair of Gee and Lyons won in straight sets. Gee evened his record on the year at 5-5 (first win at No. 3) when he scored a 6-2, 7-6 win over Moritz Bernhoerster, while Lyons rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win for his team-leading seventh singles win.
Matching him with seven wins on the year was Schafer, who after dropping his first set, 6-3, came back to earn two 6-2 wins in the next two sets for the victory.
Moore rounded out the 'Cats strong singles play on the afternoon with another three-set win. The three-setter was his third of the season as he picked up his second win in those matches with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 6 to even his singles record on the year to 6-6.
Davidson continues its six-match homestand with a weekend match against Southern Conference-foe UNCG on Saturday, Mar. 19 at 1 p.m.
