
Davidson Surrenders a 5-2 SoCon Match to UNCG in M. Tennis

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Hunting for their first Southern Conference win of the season, the Davidson men's tennis team fell short at home in a 5-2 match vs. UNCG on Saturday afternoon in men's tennis action at the Convington Tennis Courts.
UNCG picked up their sixth straight win to improve to 10-3 overall and remained perfect in league action at 4-0.
Kevin Moore (Overland Park, Kan.) had a perfect day as he won both his singles and doubles matches, but Davidson (4-11, 0-3 SoCon) dropped five of its six singles matches after opening the match by taking two of the three doubles matches.
Moore along with sophomore Chris Mark (Union City, Calif.) ran their doubles record to 4-6 with their third straight win, taking an 8-3 decision over the Spartans' C. Varapongsittikul and Ahmet Sarioglu.
Then securing the doubles team point was Ethan Kallick (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Walker Lyons (Wallingford, Pa.), who tallied their fourth straight win by taking a 9-8 win at No. 2. The pair remained unbeaten in league doubles matches at 3-0 and are 6-7 on the season overall.
Though the Wildcats dropped five of the six singles matches, they did not go down easily as three of them went into three sets.
Moore moved to over .500 on the season when he regrouped after dropping his first set, 6-1, to score 6-4, 6-3 wins in the next two sets to move to 7-6 on the season (2-1 SoCon).
Arie Hefter (Birmingham, Ala.) went to a third set after he picked up a 6-2 decision in the second set, but fell in the final set, 6-3. He had fell behind after falling 6-2 in the first set.
The final three-setter was by Joe Schafer (Orchard Park, N.Y.), who earned a 7-5 win in the first set, but lost the next two, 6-3, 6-4 to Timion Meijs at No. 2 to fall to 7-8 on the season.
Davidson, in the midst of a six-match homestand, plays host to Radford on Tuesday, Mar. 22 at 4 p.m.
