DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson placed five players in double figures in the scoring column and shot 53 percent for the game to power past Furman 86-65 in a Southern Conference men's basketball contest Saturday night in Belk Arena.

Jake Cohen tallied 16 points and seven rebounds for the Wildcats (6-1, 2-0 SoCon), and JP Kuhlman scored 16. De'Mon Brooks recorded 15 points and eight rebounds, and Nik Cochran netted 13. Chris Czerapowicz added 13 points.

Davidson shot 52 percent from the field in the first half and 54 percent in the second. The 'Cats hit 25-of-29 free throws and were 7-of-19 from 3-point range.

Bryant Irwin scored 21 points off the bench to lead Furman (3-4, 0-2 SoCon), and Dominic Early posted 12 points and six boards. Richard Brown collected 10 points and four assists.

Davidson had a 16-point first-half lead whittled down to four early in the second stanza. But leading 70-61 with 7:29 remaining, the Wildcats used a 13-2 run to put the game away.

Brooks started the run with a triple from the wing, and Davidson had the rare five-point play as Kuhlman drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the key and Cohen was fouled underneath. The junior hit both free throws to make the score 79-61 with 5:56 left.

The Wildcats, who trailed for just 1:30 in the game, opened a 21-10 cushion halfway through the first half on a Cohen layup. The margin grew to as many as 16 points after a Kuhlman jumper with 2:14 left in the half, and Davidson entered the locker room with a 41-32 advantage.

After Cochran hit a triple to start the second half, Furman scored eight straight points to make the score 44-40 3:02 into the second stanza. Irwin sparked the run with a jumper, and Charlie Reddick added four points.

With Davidson leading 51-46, Cochran scored six straight points, and Tyler Kalinoski added a pair of free throws as Davidson pushed the margin back in double digits. Furman was able to cut the deficit to seven, but Czerapowicz responded with a 3-pointer to make the score 64-54 with 9:45 to play.

Davidson hosts Vanderbilt in a non-conference contest in Belk Arena Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on ESPN3.
