Layup Line
• The Wildcats return to conference action with a home tilt against Appalachian State. It's the only meeting between the 'Cats and Mountaineers this season.
• It's Davidson's fourth home game of the campaign, and the Wildcats are 3-0 in Belk Arena. Today's game will be the 'Cats' first home conference contest.
• Davidson is in the midst of a stretch in which the Wildcats play eight games in 22 days, including four contests in the next 10 days.
• The Wildcats have won four of their last six but are coming off an 80-52 loss at No. 24 Vanderbilt Sunday. It was Davidson's worst loss since a 75-47 setback at then eighth-ranked Duke in 2006.
• Davidson coach Bob McKillop is 10 wins shy of his 400th career victory.
• Davidson was picked to finish third in the SoCon South Division again this season, while Appalachian State was picked first in the North.
• Four players are averaging double figures in the scoring column, led by Chris Czerapowicz, who has scored 31 points in his first two outings of the season.
• Jake Cohen averages 13.9 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds, and JP?Kuhlman averages 12.3 points.
• Brendan McKillop is averaging 10.3 points and leads the squad with 33 3-pointers.
• Appalachian State is 2-3 in its last five and coming off a 91-71 home win over Milligan last Thursday.
• The Mountaineers have also been road warriors this season as nine of their 12 games have been away from home. Appalachian State owns a 2-4 mark in true road games, including a 1-1 record in conference play.
• Donald Sims, who set the Belk Arena scoring record with 44 points against the 'Cats last season, leads the Mountaineers with 22.5 points and 4.5 assists an outing. He recently became ASU's all-time leading scorer.
• Newcomer Omar Carter averages 14.2 points and 4.9 rebounds and Jeremi Booth averages 10.1 points and 3.9 boards.
• The Mountaineers share one common opponent with Davidson - Vanderbilt. App lost at Vandy 86-73 Nov. 27.
Series History
• Davidson leads the all-time series 37-31, but Appalachian State has won the last two meetings.
• The Mountaineers swept the season series last year, becoming the first SoCon team to sweep the regular-season series against Davidson since the 2000-01 campaign.
• The series began with a 52-49 Wildcat victory in the 1945-46 season.
• The 'Cats are 19-13 at home, 9-7 at Belk Arena and 21-14 against Appalachian State under Bob McKillop.
• Donald Sims scored a career-high 44 points, and Appalachian State held Davidson to two field goals in the last six minutes of the game to defeat the Wildcats 78-68 in the last meeting in Belk Arena.
• Sims was 13-for-19 from the field, 5-for-7 from 3-point range and 13-for-13 from the free-throw line. His point total set a new Belk Arena record.
• The Wildcats had four scorers in double figures, led by JP Kuhlman with 18 points. Will Archambault posted 14, while Steve Rossiter and Brendan McKillop each scored 10.
• Sims scored 25 points, including 19 in the second half, to lead Appalachian State to a 66-56 SoCon win over Davidson in the last meeting overall.
• Sims was 9-for-14 shooting for the night to pace the Mountaineers, while Kellen Brand and Marcus Wright each finished with 10 points, and Josh Hunter pulled down 10 boards for the Mountaineers.
• Davidson led 30-28 at halftime on the strength of 12 first-half points, all 3-pointers, from Bryant Barr. Appalachian took control with a 47-40 lead midway through the second period, after four ties and two lead changes, and led the rest of the way.
• Barr's fifth trey came with just under two minutes to play, pulling Davidson within six, but Sims knocked down a pair of free throws and recorded the final basket to secure the win.
• Barr finished with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 5-for-7 from downtown. Jake Cohen and Will Archambault, who recorded his 1,000th point of his Davidson career on a free throw four minutes and 47 seconds into the game, also scored in double figures for Davidson, finishing with 10 points each.
Leftovers from Vanderbilt
• Vanderbilt improved to 103-8 in non-conference home games under head coach Kevin Stallings.
• It was the fifth meeting between Davidson and Vanderbilt, and the Commodores have been ranked in three of the five.
• It was Davidson's first game against a ranked opponent since losing 103-91 to No. 21/22 Gonzaga in Seattle last season.
• It was Davidson's lowest shooting percentage since the 'Cats shot 29.5 percent against Wofford at home last season.

• Jake Cohen has made 29 straight free throws, dating back to the game at The Citadel Dec. 4. The school record is 41, set by Stephen Curry in 2007-08.
• Brendan McKillop has been named one of 66 candidates for the Bob Cousy Award, which recognizes college basketball's top point guard.
• Cohen was named to the MSG?Holiday Festival All-Tournament Team after averaging 15.5 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots in two games.
• Davidson has held its opponents to under 40 percent shooting in six games and won all six.
• With just one non-conference game left in the regular season (BracketBuster Feb. 19), Davidson owns a 6-5 non-conference mark.
• Davidson began the season by playing 10 of its first 13 games on the road. The 'Cats home opener was the sixth game of the year, the latest during the 22-year tenure of head coach Bob McKillop.
• Davidson won its home opener for the 19th consecutive season.
• The Wildcats opened SoCon play with two games in Charleston for the second-straight campaign.
