Davidson Men’s Golf Ties for Seventh at Mason Rudolph

FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Davidson men's golf placed in a tie for seventh with Southern Conference foe Chattanooga in a field of 17 with a six-over par 858 (287+287+284) in the Mason Rudolph Championship, which concluded Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Freshman Richard Fountain (Raleigh, N.C.) moved into a tie for third place with a three-under par 68 in Saturday's second round, but slid into a tie for 12th after shooting a two-over, 73 in the third-and-final round. Fountain finished as Davidson's top golfer for the weekend though at 212 (71+68+73), one-under par.
Sophomore John Skeadas (Savannah, Ga.) moved up to 15th place to finish one stroke behind Fountain at 213 (72+70+71), even par. Senior Bobby Urso (Beverley Hills, Mich.) matched Skeadas' final-round 71 to finish at 221 (tie-52nd).
Freshman Sam Echikson (Brussels, Belgium) had Davidson's best score of the final round, a three-under 69.
Junior Jackson Taylor (Wilmington, N.C.) also competed, posting an 80 after entering the day at just two-over par.
Although Davidson posted their best team score of the tournament of 284, they were unable to move up the leader board as Middle Tennessee State jumped from eighth to fifth behind a final round 274. The Wildcats entered the day two strokes behind Chattanooga, which fired a final round 286.
Memphis rode their first-day 274 to victory, finishing at an even-par 284 in the last two rounds to total 842. Jack Belote of Memphis took medalist honors with an eight-under par 205 (66+69+70).
South Carolina (844) finished two strokes behind Memphis, and was followed by Mississippi (847), Oklahoma (848), Middle Tennessee State (850) and the hosts, Vanderbilt (856). Akron trailed Davidson with an 866 in ninth place. Southern Conference foe Western Carolina placed 15th with an 889.
Davidson will return to action October 11-12 at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia Southern.
