BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Bryant Barr hit two free throws with 22 seconds left, and the Davidson defense forced a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer as the Wildcats grinded out a 55-52 SoCon victory over Samford at a packed Pete Hanna Center Saturday afternoon.

It was Davidson's 41st straight regular-season conference victory.

The Bulldogs cut a 10-point second-half deficit down to 47-46 on a Curtis West layup with 4:35 to play. Andrew Lovedale answered with consecutive layups for the Wildcats (18-3, 11-0 SoCon), but the Bulldogs responded with five straight points to trim the margin to 51-50 with 1:26 remaining.

Stephen Curry hit Steve Rossiter with a pass for a layup off a slip screen on Davidson's next possession. Trey Montgomery missed a layup for the Bulldogs (11-10, 6-6 SoCon), but the rebound went off the 'Cats and out of bounds.

Jim Griffin scored a layup off the inbounds play with 32.3 seconds left, bringing the lead back to one point. Davidson was able to run 10 seconds off the clock before Barr was fouled, setting up a one-and-one situation. The junior stepped to the line and calmly made two from the charity stripe.

Montgomery missed a 3-pointer for Samford, but the ball went out of bounds off of the 'Cats with 10.2 seconds left. The Bulldogs got the ball to Josh Bedwell on the inbounds play, but Lovedale jumped out to contest the shot. The 3-point try came off the front iron and into the paws of Rossiter as the buzzer sounded to end the game.

Curry finished the hard-fought contest with 20 points, and Lovedale posted 13 points and 12 rebounds. Rossiter had nine points and six rebounds, and Barr wound up with five points.

West posted 13 points and five rebounds, and Montgomery posted 10 points and six boards for Samford.

Neither team shot the ball well in the raucous environment. Davidson finished the game 32.8 percent from the floor and 19 percent from 3-point land. A key for the 'Cats was knocking down 13-of-14 from the charity stripe. Samford shot 34 percent for the game and 27.3 percent from long distance.

Davidson, which never trailed in the contest, jumped out to a 22-5 lead in the game's first 9:42, but the Bulldogs held the 'Cats without a field goal in the last 10:18 of the frame to trim the margin to 27-22 at the break.

Davidson is back in action Monday when the Wildcats host Western Carolina at 7 p.m. in Belk Arena.

NOTES:
It was the 13th time this season Davidson has held its opponent below 40 percent shooting… It was Lovedale's seventh doube-double this season (second straight) and the ninth of his career… The attendance of 5,116 was almost 1,000 more than the previous Samford record… Curry moved into 17th on the NCAA career 3-pointers list… It was a season low for the 'Cats in points and field goal percentage.
