DAVIDSON, N.C. — For the second straight day, the Davidson women's tennis team earned another shutout victory as the Wildcats earned their third straight Southern Conference win with a 7-0 blanking of visiting Western Carolina on Sunday afternoon at the Covington Tennis Courts.
Davidson increased its overall mark to 10-3 and remained unbeaten in league play at 3-0. Western Carolina fell to 3-9 overall and 0-3 in SoCon action.

The win for Davidson improved its all-time record against the Catamounts to a perfect 20-0 and is was the sixth straight season the Wildcats have won by the score of 7-0. The 3-0 start in league play marks the fourth time in a row the Wildcats have won their first three league matches.

Several Wildcats increased their winning streaks in both singles and doubles play in guiding the 'Cats to the win.

The duo of senior Kelsey Linville and sophomore Virginia Berry won their sixth in a row as a doubles pair with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles. Davidson improved its overall team record in doubles play to a very impressive 30-9.

Both Linville and Berry along with junior Michele Fanney each tallied their second straight  wins in singles action with victories at No. 1, 2 and 4 in straight sets.

Continuing her torrid start is Meredith Skeeters, who rattled off her ninth straight win to move to 9-1 on the year after a 6-1, 6-0 win over Emily Turke at No. 6.

Right behind Skeeters is senior Kim Whelan and sophomore Teresa Wang, who won their sixth and fifth, respectively, in a row. Whelan became the first Wildcat to reach double figures in wins with her 10th singles victory after a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 3.

Playing her first singles match since Mar. 2, Wang picked up her sixth win overall to just one defeat by not giving up a single game to Susanna Sjokvist in taking a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5.

Davidson starts a five-match road swing with a trip to cross-county rival Charlotte on Mar. 19 for a 2 p.m. match.
