Layup Line
• The Wildcats open the 2008-09 season with a 9 p.m. contest against Guilford at John M. Belk Arena.
• It's the regular-season home opener and season opener for the Wildcats, who are coming off a 29-7 campaign.
• Davidson is 16-3 in home openers at Belk Arena and have won the last 16.
• The Wildcats are 3-1 in their last four season openers and have won the last three.
• Davidson is on a current 17-game winning streak in Belk Arena. The 'Cats last loss in the building was against Appalachian State Jan. 20, 2007.
• The 'Cats have not lost a non-conference game in Belk Arena since a 73-63 setback against Seton Hall Dec. 29, 2004.

• Davidson returns 11 lettermen and three starters from last year's squad, including four of its top six scorers.
• Guilford is coming off a 24-5 season in which it won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament and advanced to the Division III?NCAA?Tournament.
• The Quakers suffered an 89-77 setback to St. Mary's (Md.) in the first round of the NCAAs.
• Guilford returns four of its top seven scorers from that squad, led by Clay Henson, who averaged 12.9 points a game.
• Tonight's game will be the nightcap of a doubleheader with the Wildcat volleyball team, which hosts Wofford at 6 p.m.
Series History
• Davidson leads the all-time series, which began in the 1908-09 season, 30-12.
• The Wildcats won the last meeting 86-59 at Belk Arena. Prior to that contest, the Quakers and Wildcats had not played since 1957.
• Stephen Marshall led the Wildcats with 17 points in that game, while Martin Ides scored 14. Davidson shot 53.2 percent from the floor and 40 percent from 3-point range.
Belk Arena Home Openers
• Davidson begins its 20th season in Belk Arena this evening and has won each of the past 16 home openers after losing the first three.
• Overall, Davidson boasts a 193-58 (.769) record in Belk Arena, and a 176-35 (.834) mark since winning its first home opener in 1992-93.
• The Wildcats are seven wins away from their 200th in Belk Arena.
Preseason Accolades
• Stephen Curry, a 2008 Wooden Award All-American, has been selected as one of the top-50 candidates for the award this season.
• The junior guard has been named a first-team preseason All-American by The Associated Press, The Sporting News, Athlon Sports, Blue Ribbon Basketball and CollegeHoops.net. He was selected the Preseason Southern Conference Player of the Year in the league's coaches poll.
• He received the second-most votes (66) of any player in being selected preseason All-America by the Associated Press. Tyler Hansbrough was a unanimous selection with 72 votes.
• The Wooden Award Committee will release the Mid-Season Top-30 candidates in mid-January, and the final ballot will be announced in March.
• Curry finished fourth in the country in scoring, averaging 25.9 points a contest a season ago. He set an NCAA record with 162 3-pointers and shot 43.9 percent from long distance while leading the Wildcats to the Midwest Regional final, where he was named the regional's Most Outstanding Player.
• He scored 30 or more points in 11 contests, 40 or more points twice, 20 or more in 27 games and shot 48 percent from the floor.
Preseason Polls
• The Wildcats are ranked 20th in both the AP?and the ESPN/USA?Today Coaches Poll.
• It's the first time the Wildcats have been ranked in the preseason since prior to the 1969-70 campaign, when Davidson was ranked fifth in The Associated Press Preseason Poll.
• The 'Cats closed out the 2007-08 season ranked 23rd in the AP poll and ninth in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll after defeating three ranked opponents en route to the Elite Eight.
SoCon Preseason Polls
• The Southern Conference coaches and the league's media association have picked Davidson first in the South Division in their respective preseason polls.
• The Wildcats garnered 11 first-place votes in the coaches poll, and junior Stephen Curry was named the Preseason Player of the Year. Senior Andrew Lovedale joined Curry on the preseason all-conference team. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players or schools.
• In the media poll, Davidson finished with 119 points on the strength of 19 first-place votes.
