DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson's Stephen Curry scored a game-high 41 points to lead the Davidson men's basketball team to an 87-54 exhibition victory over Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday night at John M. Belk Arena.

Curry shot 15-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-9 from behind the three-point line and tallied 24 points in the first half. The preseason All-American led all players with five assists and tied teammate Andrew Lovedale with a game-high seven rebounds.

The two teams played an even first half, with the largest Davidson lead of 16 coming with 48 seconds remaining, and Lenoir-Rhyne holding a four-point advantage at the 16:35 mark of the first frame. The teams traded the lead on four occasions and were tied twice in the first 20 minutes of play.

The Wildcats went into the halftime break with a 47-33 cushion, fueled by an 11-2 run over a three-minute span, which was capped off by a fast break three-pointer by Bryant Barr at the 3:12 mark, with the assist coming from Curry.

Davidson began to stretch its lead in the second half, using its defense to force Lenoir-Rhyne into 23 turnovers, which the Wildcats were able to convert into quick points. Curry hit consecutive three-pointers off of fast breaks that gave Davidson a 78-50 lead with five minutes to play.

Lovedale contributed 11 points to complement his seven rebounds, joining Curry as the two double-digit scorers for Davidson. Will Archambault recorded nine points and five rebounds, and Ben Allison chipped in seven points and five boards off the bench.

Lenoir-Rhyne's Elliot McDowell led the Bears with 20 points, shooting 8-for-15 from the field.

Davidson out-rebounded the Bears 43-20, which led to 28 second-chance points and 42 points in the paint for the contest. As a team, the Wildcats shot 56.9 percent from the floor, while hitting ten three-pointers in 23 attempts, and hit 11-of-13 free throws for an 84.6 percent clip. Lenoir-Rhyne was 18-for-49 from the field overall and 4-of-10 from behind the three-point line.

The Wildcats will kick off their 2008-09 regular season this Friday, Nov. 14, when they play host to Guildford College at Belk Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m.
