Davidson, N.C. – Playing in his final contest, senior Ryan Hubbard caught eight passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns to break the Davidson career receiving yardage record and lead the Wildcats to a 44-6 Pioneer Football League victory over Valparaiso Saturday afternoon at Richardson Stadium. It was the 400th win in program history.

Hubbard capped the season by catching 50 passes for 763 yards in the last five contests after coming back from an injury. He finished his career with 2,230 receiving yards to top Brett Dioguardi, who set the mark from 2003-06.

Senior Ryan Alexander completed 20-of-27 passes for 381 yards and four touchdowns, and sophomore receiver Andrew Aldrich had five receptions for 116 yards. Freshman Justin Williams rushed for 67 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns and caught three passes for 37 yards and another score.

Davidson closes the campaign with a 6-4 overall record for the second consecutive year and a 4-3 mark in the PFL. It's the Wildcats' second straight winning season and the fourth time the 'Cats have won four or more conference games in school history.

"I told our team and our seniors that we need to go out with a win today to put us on the door step and on the verge of kicking that door down and taking the next step for this program," said Davidson coach Tripp Merritt. "It's going to take a lot of hard work, and that's what the offseason is for."

On their second possession of the game, the Wildcats went 80 yards on three plays to take a 7-0 lead. A 59-yard pass from Alexander to Hubbard keyed the drive, and Williams capped it with a 21-yard TD run.

Alexander's 35-yard pass to Aldrich sparked the 'Cats second scoring drive, and Williams went in from three yards out to give Davidson a 14-0 lead with 10:53 to play in the second frame.

The Davidson defense set up their third score when senior Bud Crawford forced a fumble and classmate Zach Long recovered at the Valpo 29-yard line. Alexander hit Williams with a 29-yard TD pass on the next play to make the margin 21-0.

"I think we needed that defensively today," said Merritt. "We challenged them to step up to the plate and they got it done."

The Wildcats used their last series of the half to add to their cushion. Davidson drove 55 yards in nine plays, and Alexander hit Hubbard for a 5-yard TD pass to give the 'Cats a 28-0 lead with 38 seconds left before the break.

Senior Patrick FitzGerald's 11th career interception on the second play of the third quarter set up a short field for the Davidson offense. Two plays later, Hubbard caught an 18-yard TD pass from Alexander. The PAT was no good, making the score 34-0.

Long intercepted a pass at the Davidson 24-yard line, and the 'Cats delivered the knockout blow with a, seven-play, 76 yard drive, capped by a 7-yard strike from Alexander to junior D.J. Singleterry that made the score 41-0.

Notes: Hubbard's catch that broke the record was a 57-yarder in the third quarter… Davidson has now had scoring drives of 80 or more yards eight times this season… Williams had 10 touchdowns in the last three games to take over the team lead… The Wildcats' streak of 141 pass attempts without a sack came to an end in the second quarter… Long's interception was the seventh of his career and team-leading third of the season… The last time Davidson had back-to-back winning seasons was in 2002, when the 'Cats had five consecutive seasons with a .500 or better record… The 'Cats finished the season with a 4-1 record at home… Davidson honored 17 seniors prior to kickoff as part of Senior Day ceremonies.
