Joe Sheridan joined the Davidson baseball staff as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for pitching in January, 2024.
Sheridan came to Davidson after a stint at UCF, his alma mater.
“We are very excited about Joe joining us,” said head coach Rucker Taylor. “As a person, he’ll add value to our community. As a coach, he will continue a lot of things in progress and will add to that foundation and continue to develop our program.”
Sheridan previously made coaching stops at Cincinnati and Siena, where he served as interim head coach last spring.
“I would like to start by thanking Coach Taylor for the opportunity to be a part of the program he has built here at Davidson College,” said Sheridan. “It is an honor to be able to continue the tradition of working with high-level students and high-level athletes at this school.”
A left-handed pitcher, Sheridan played at UCF from 2017 to 2020, then completed his eligibility in 2021 at Notre Dame. He was a part of two NCAA Tournament teams, including the 2017 UCF team that won the American Athletic Conference championship and the 2021 Notre Dame team that won the ACC Atlantic Division and reached the NCAA Super Regionals.
As a UCF freshman, Sheridan was 10-4 with a 3.25 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 72 innings and earned Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger and Perfect Game/Rawlings. He finished his playing career with a 3.82 ERA in 51 appearances.
In the fall of 2021, Sheridan served as Cincinnati’s director of player development, then joined Siena as an assistant coach. He was Siena’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator in 2022 and into 2023, then took the reins of the program following the midseason retirement of longtime coach Tony Rossi.
Sheridan led Siena to 12 wins down the stretch in 2023, including victories over MAAC champion and NCAA-bound Rider and perennial postseason bid contender Wofford.
A Florida native, Sheridan graduated from UCF in 2020 with a degree in human communication with a business and professional track. In 2021, he earned his master’s in management from Notre Dame.
