Longtime throws coach Bob Luciano joined the Davidson College track & field staff in August 2024.
 
Leading Davidson’s first-ever throwing squad with a full time dedicated throws coach, Luciano's four freshman and two sophomores rewrote the record books during the 2024-2025 season. Sam Ketch set the men’s school hammer record with a toss of 47.44m. His 46.97m discus PR ranks 3rd on Davidson’s all time performer list. Eddie Brown took 8th place at the Atlantic 10 outdoor championship meet with a massive PR of 14.61m, ranking 7th on Davidson’s all time performer list. He earned most improved men’s athlete of the year 2024-2025. Chris Thompson’s 52.89m javelin PR moved him up to 6th on Davidson’s all time performer list.
Also during the 2024-2025 season, John Teachman shattered the javelin school record with an NCAA East Regional qualifying throw of 64.02m. His consistency was impressive, throwing beyond 60m in all 7 meets. He won the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Javelin title and earned Davidson’s men’s field athlete MVP award 2024-2025.
On the women's side, Summer Laskey set the program's hammer throw record with a toss of 48.33m. She earned 8thplace at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor championship meet with a PR in the discus throw of 40.99m, ranking 2nd on Davidson’s all time performer list. Ashley Rangel set school records in the 20lb weight throw (14.24m), indoor shot put (12.84m), and outdoor shot put (13.52m).
 
Prior to Davidson, Luciano coached at Muhlenberg College from 2022 to 2024, leading the Mules’ throwers to drastic improvements and several accolades. He coached Centennial Conference Champions in the men’s and women’s hammer, men’s discus, men’s 35lb weight, and men’s Javelin with the latter being a two-time National qualifier and All-American in the javelin. Dylan DeMagistris became the all-time leading hammer Thrower in the Centennial Conference.
 
He spent nine seasons as the javelin coach at Moravian College. While in Bethlehem, Pa., the 2012 USTFCCCA Mideast Assistant Male Coach of the Year had eight different throwers qualify for the Division III National Championships, including eventual champions Gary Zack (2011) and Mary Kate Duncan (2017). In addition, Luciano coached seven Greyhounds to All-American status.
 
Luciano’s collegiate coaching career began in 1993 at Lafayette College, highlighted by leading Harrison Bailey to be the all-time leading discus thrower in the Patriot League. Lafayette College is where he also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He would later earn his Master’s of Mathematics Education from DeSales University.
 
On the national level, he coached Andy Fahringer to a seventh-place finish in the javelin at the 2017 USATF Championships.
 
As a competitor, Luciano was the USATF 2008 Masters National Champion in the javelin.
