Renny Waldron is in his ninth year at Davidson, and fourth as the Director of Men’s Cross Country and Track and Field.

He previously served as Head Men's Cross Country and Track and Field Coach from 2015-19 before being elevated during the summer of 2019. The 2022-23 school year is Waldron’s 20th year of coaching and 17th at the Division I level.

In each year with Waldron at the helm, the Davidson Cross Country and Track and Field program has reached new heights, as the Davidson teams have had higher team finishes, qualified more athletes for the NCAA Championship, and continued to break school records.

The 2021-22 seasons were by far the most successful in Davidson history, with the indoor track and field team placing 2nd and the outdoor track and field team placing 3rd at the Atlantic 10 Championships, which are both the highest finishes in school history.

During the indoor season, the Wildcats won four individual events, while having 10 podium finishes and breaking 10 school records many times over. Waldron was named 2022 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the indoor track and field season. During the outdoor season, Davidson athletes won four events, had 11 podium finishes, qualified 4 athletes to the first round of NCAA’s, broke five school records many times over, and saw Bryce Anthony become the first All-American in Davidson school history in the 400 hurdles.

  • 23 Atlantic-10 Champion Performances (relays=1 performance)
  • 67 Podium Finishes in Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field
  • 12 NCAA East Preliminary Qualifiers in Outdoor Track and Field
  • 44 Atlantic-10 All-Conference Members in Indoor and Outdoor track and field
  • 9 Atlantic-10 All-Conference members in Cross Country.
Prior to Davidson, Waldron served as the recruiting coordinator and assistant men's cross country and track and field coach at UConn during the 2013-2014 school year, where he guided the cross country team to its highest conference championship finish in over 20 years. He coached several All-AAC team members during the indoor season, including mile champion Michael O’Donnell. Waldron’s milers placed first, third and fourth at the AAC championships during the indoor season.

From 2006-12, Waldron served as an assistant coach for Northeastern cross country and track and field. Waldron saw 18 school records fall in the distance events, and coached six individuals to CAA titles. He helped Northeastern to its highest-ever finish in the conference, and coached Eric Jenkins, who posted a pair of sub-four minute mile times and was the only freshman to qualify for the NCAA final in the 1,500m in 2011. In addition to guiding men's and women's cross country teams to their highest-ever conference finishes, the cross country and track teams were also named USTFCCCA All-Academic every year.

Waldron got his coaching start as the Boys Cross country and Track and field coach at his alma mater, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, from 2003-06.  He led the boys team to seven Greater Boston League championships during his three years at the helm.

As a senior in high school, Waldron was a captain on the Cambridge Rindge and Latin State Championship winning indoor and outdoor track and field teams, and won the indoor Division 1 state title in the mile and outdoor Emass Division 1 title in the 2 mile in 1999.

Waldron attended Iona College before transferring to fellow Atlantic 10 member University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History.
