First Season

Fresh off finishing his collegiate career, Patrick FitzGerald makes the transition from player to coach, joining the Davidson staff for his first season. He will serve as a defensive assistant and work closely with the secondary.

A four-year letterman for the Wildcats, FitzGerald played in 39 career games and started the last 30 contests. He finished his career as a corner back with 11 interceptions, 201 tackles and 18 pass break-ups.

He earned first-team FCS Mid-Major All-America and first-team All-Pioneer Football League honors in 2006, and was named second-team FCS Mid-Major All-America in 2005.

“As a former captain at Davidson, it’s great to have someone with Patrick’s leadership skills and working knowledge of our defense join the staff,” said head coach Tripp Merritt.

FitzGerald was a star in the classroom as well, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District honors and Academic All-PFL accolades in his junior and senior seasons. He was also a two-time selection to the Athletic Directors Association FCS Academic All-Star team.
He graduated from Davidson in 2008 with a degree in history.
