Carter Promoted to Associate Head Coach

DAVIDSON — Chris Carter has been elevated to associate head coach of the Davidson swimming and diving program, head coach John Young announced Tuesday afternoon.
Carter joined the Wildcats coaching staff as an assistant in 2023 and also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator.
"As our team's next season officially begins, I am delighted to share that Chris has been promoted," said Young. "He's been an incredible collaborator and leader for the Wildcats since stepping onto campus three years ago. His engaging demeanor and well-tuned instincts for training have impacted the scholar-athletes in a positive way, and his relentless work as recruiting coordinator has ensured a bright future for the program. He is exceedingly deserving of recognition, and I am thrilled for him to call Davidson home."
Carter works as the primary coach of Davidson's distance group and was instrumental in the development of nine-time Atlantic 10 champion and 2026 NCAA Championships qualifier Dylan Felt '26.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue serving this program," said Carter. "Davidson is such a special place to my family and me, and I am thankful to John and (director of athletics) Chris Clunie for their continued belief in me. I am continually inspired by our scholar-athletes and the DCSD community and am excited to continue building something special here at Davidson. Go Cats!"
Carter has also worked extensively with Henry Shoemaker, who last year won the A10's 1,650 freestyle title as a freshman. And he helped prepare Ginny Thorsen, who swam to A10 bronze in the 200 free.
In three years, Carter has mentored 16 A10 Championship scorers in the 1,650 free and 15 in the 500.
Davidson opens the 2026-27 campaign later this month when it visits Queens (Sept. 26).
