MECHANICSVILLE, VA - Davidson finished sixth overall as a team at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships. This is tied for the second-best finish by the program at an A10 XC Championship. John Cooper threw down the second-fastest 8K time in program history and also posted the second-best finish by a Wildcat in an Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship. Cooper placed fourth overall with a time of 23:45.10.
"We knew it was going to be a tight team battle from fourth to seventh place," said Coach Andrew Allden. "We had a very good day. For us to average a 24:30 8K mark with our top five runners is phenomenal."
Five of the top six performers for Davidson recorded personal-best times. This group featured John Cooper, Alex Thole, Quinn Swanton, Eric Robinson III, and Eli Roth.
"As proud as I am of John getting fourth overall, the race of the day was from Alex Thole," explained Coach Allden. "He flat out broke through in this race. I am super proud of him.
Thole shattered roughly 26 seconds off his previous personal-best 8K time. The junior finished 16th overall and posted a time of 24:13.40. His prior best 8K mark was 24:39.70. He was one spot shy of earning an A10 All-Conference honor. That belongs to the top 15 spots.
"Alex was overdue for a race like this," Coach Allden elaborated. "Leading up to this race, his workouts recently suggested there was a little bit more there. I would best describe it as the pot boiling at the right time."
Quinn Swanton ran most of the race alongside Alex Thole. The duo clocked in at 14:59 through 5K. Swanton ran 24:17.20 in the 8K and was 19th overall. He shaved roughly eight seconds off his old personal-best time from a couple weeks ago (24:25.60).
Eric Robinson III was the fifth-fastest freshman and the second-fastest true freshman on the course. Robinson cut off 15 seconds on his previous best 8K time in college from a few weeks ago. He ran 24:53.80 and the only true freshman ahead of him was Fordham's Aidan Urquiola (24:50.80).
