CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Highlighted by Anderson Heap and Tyson Sherlock's run to the quarterfinals, Davidson wrapped up day one of competition at the 2026 Southern Scuffle hosted by Chattanooga Saturday inside McKenzie Arena.
Despite dropping their quarterfinal match-ups, the Wildcat duo will be joined by Tanner Peake (157 lbs) and Bryce Griffin (165 lbs) in tomorrow's Consi of 8 #2.
Heap punched his ticket to the quarterfinals of the 149-pound bracket with a 5-1 decision over Oliver Fairchild of Clarion before knocking off No. 32 Eugene Harney (Morgan State) in overtime for his second ranked win of 2025-26. The sophomore's lone setback came to Penn State's Connor Pierce, 5-2.
At 174 pounds, Sherlock edged Duke's Logan Richey, 3-2 in his opening match followed by a convincing 7-0 blanking of conference foe Owen Hendricks (The Citadel). Despite falling to Max Magayna (North Dakota State), Sherlock will face Hudson Rogers of Utah Valley Sunday.
After dropping his first match of the day to No. 5 and top-seed Matty Bianchi (Little Rock), 10-7, Griffin strung together four straight victories highlighted by a 10-5 decision over No. 26 Maximus Norman of Brown to advance to day two.
