Gisolfi-McCready, Valmassei Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award

WASHINGTON — Davidson multi-sport athletes Aleia Gisolfi-McCready and Annica Valmassei are among the Atlantic 10 Conference's 13 nominees for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Gisolfi-McCready (soccer, track & field) and Valmassei (diving, track & field) earned their Davidson degrees in biology/pre-med and chemistry, respectively, in May.
The A-10 will narrow its initial pool of nominees to two next month, and Davidson is the only institution with multiple student-athletes to make the cut.
Gisolfi-McCready (Lexington, Mass.) received Davidson's prestigious Rebecca E. Stimson Award in May after excelling year-round. She scored four goals last fall, was the 60-meter hurdles A-10 indoor champion in the winter and was runner-up in the 100 and 400 hurdles at the A-10 Outdoor Championships in the spring.
As a senior, Valmassei (Lake Lotowana, Mo.) secured her second A-10 3-meter diving title with a score of 303.15 and earned her second consecutive A-10 All-Academic Team honor. In May, she was one of 14 A-10 graduates to receive the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
Valmassei also competed in outdoor track and field and this spring posted a personal-best mark of 11 feet, six-and-a-half inches in the pole vault.
Now in its 35th year, the NCAA Woman of the Year Award celebrates the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics. Established in 1991, the award honors graduating female college athletes who have distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.
