Wildcats Land Four in A-10 Postseason Accolades

WASHINGTON D.C. - Juan Camilo Perez Gongora received First Team and All-Academic nods while Uddayvir Singh (First Team), Gregorio Hidalgo (Second Team) and Nico Pinzon (All-Academic) were named A-10 selections the league announced Monday.Â
Perez Gongora, a native of Puerto de la Cruz Spain primarily played from the top position in all 13 of his singles matches and all 16 of his doubles matches, holding a 5-8 singles record including one win at the No. 1 spot and four from the No. 2 position. The senior Physics major was 2-0 in A-10 singles competition including a win over an at the time undefeated (17-0) Dayton opponent in addition to being 3-2 at No. 1 doubles and 6-5 at No. 2 doubles.Â
The honors are the second in the career of Perez Gongora as he was both a First Team and All-Academic selection a season ago.Â
Singh, a senior Economics major, spent the majority of his playing time at the top position in all 17 of his singles matches and 18 of his doubles matches compiling a 7-10 singles and 10-8 doubles record. The Chandigarh, India native went 3-2 in A-10 singles play with six total wins from the No. 1 position after picking up a match-clinching victory in the quarterfinals of the A-10 Tournament over Fordham to propel the 'Cats to a semifinals match.Â
This years set of postseason awards marks Singh's third time being placed on an All-Conference team after earning the honors his freshman, junior and now senior seasons.Â
Pinzon, an Interdisciplinary Studies major, played a pivotal part in the top portion of the Wildcats lineup. The senior tallied a team-high 10 doubles wins including six from the No. 1 spot while also being an undefeated 5-0 in No. 2 doubles play. The Sunrise, Fla. resident earned seven singles wins over 15 matches and was a perfect 1-0 in A-10 singles competition with an A-10 Tournament win over Fordham.Â
In his debut season with the Wildcats, Hidalgo was a roster-best 15-3 in singles and 10-7 in doubles. The Madrid, Spain native was an undefeated 3-0 in A-10 singles competition including a 2-0 mark at the A-10 Championships in singles. Additionally, Hidalgo was 9-3 at the No. 3 position in singles and an undefeated 5-0 at the No. 4 spot. The freshman ended the year on a four-match winning streak in singles in addition to picking up five wins at No. 1 doubles and going a perfect 5-0 in No. 2 doubles action.Â
