Perez Gongora Undefeated in Singles, Wildcats Split Weekend

DAYTON, OHIO - Juan Camilo Perez Gongora went undefeated in singles action while the Davidson men's tennis team split the weekend with a win over Saint Louis and loss at Dayton.Â
The result moves the Wildcats record to 10-8 overall, marking the first season since 2019-2020 eclipsing 10 team wins. The 'Cats Atlantic 10 mark also moves to 2-1 with the conference split.Â
The Billikens took an early lead after taking wins on courts one and three to seal the team doubles point.Â
In singles competition, the Wildcats quickly closed the door on Saint Louis, winning on courts one through four courtesy of Uddayvir Singh (6-4, 6-4), Juan Camilo Perez Gongora (6-3, 6-3), Gregorio Hidalgo (6-2, 7-5) and Davide Procacci (6-2, 6-1).Â
The following day the 'Cats faced off against a strong Flyers team. Dayton earned the opening point of the match winning 6-4 on court two and narrowly edging out a 7-6(7) victory on court three, leaving Hidalgo and Nico Pinzon unfinished at the No. 1 spot tied 6-6.Â
Dayton went on to clinch the match in singles, leaving two bouts unfinished on courts three and four. Despite the loss, Perez Gongora, who tallied the Wildcats' lone point of the match, came away with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph on court two, which marked the first loss of the season for his opponent Mikkel Zinder, snapping a 17-match winning streak.Â
