Singh Clinches Match, Wildcats Upset Fordham to Advance to Semifinals

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Davidson men's tennis team's postseason hopes were kept a reality with senior Uddayvir Singh clinching a thrilling three-set victory to upset No. 4 Fordham Thursday and advance to Friday's semifinals round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.Â
The Wildcats have now advanced past the opening round of the A-10 Tournament for the sixth time since their inaugural season in the conference in 2014-15.Â
With the Rams taking an early 1-0 advantage after winning the doubles bout, Davide Procacci made quick work of his opponent on court winning 6-2, 6-3 in what would be the lone two-set match of the night.Â
The remaining five 'Cats would find themselves in a marathon of singles all entering third sets hours into the night. Singh, Juan Camilo Perez Gongora and Gregorio Hidalgo all battled back from first-set losses to take their second 7-5, 6-4 and 7-6 respectively ahead of their deciding frames.
Junior Sebastian Carpio Moran was also left unfinished amidst a notable battle in which he fought back to take his second set 6-3 and lead 5-2 in the final after falling by narrow 6-7(6-7) margin in a back-and-forth first set.Â
On court six, Nico Pinzon would be the next to score for Davidson, holding off his Ram opponent on the way to a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 triumph. Hidalgo followed suit in nailbiting fashion via 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 win in the No. 3 spot, notching the 'Cats withing clinching distance.Â
Singh, a Chandigarh, India native, pulled to an even 6-6 in a third-set tiebreak thriller before rattling off two consecutive points to clinch the first round win for the Wildcats.Â
