ORLANDO, Fla. — Trailing by as many as nine strokes on the back side, the Davidson men's golf team rallied past Richmond late to capture the 2025 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship Thursday afternoon at Evermore Resort.
Champions for the fifth time in their last seven appearances, the Wildcats earned the league's automatic berth into next month's NCAA Regional, which will take place at one of six sites May 12-14.
"Unbelievable! I'm just so proud of these guys — they never gave up," said Davidson head coach Tim Straub. "I'm especially happy for our two seniors, Joshua Stewart and Will Davis. They have been amazing players for our program and really deserved another trip to the NCAA Tournament."
Stewart, who entered with the league's lowest stroke average and highest national ranking, was named the Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Year. He was joined on the all-conference team by Davis.
In addition, freshman Nate Faulkner, who secured the comeback and clinched the title with a par on the last hole, was named the league's Rookie of the Year.
Davidson, which had a disappointing finish on day two, playing the final three holes in eight-over, was almost flawless over its last five holes in the final round. Sparked by a Faulkner eagle on the 592-yard, Par 5 15, the Wildcats played their closing stretch in eight-under.
Faulkner (-4) and Stewart (-4) finished tied for third, while Davis bounced back with a 69 to climb into a tie for seventh. Sophomore Davis Sayman (+2) came home 17th followed in the lineup by Will Tharin (T-50), who posted a 74 today.
The 'Cats entered the day five strokes back before posting a five-under 283 to conclude the 54-hole event at 854 (-10).
The Spiders (-9) finished one back of the 'Cats and seven clear of Dayton (-2). VCU (E) and Loyola-Chicago (+11) rounded out the top five.
Since 2018, Davidson has five titles, a runner-up and third-place showing in the A-10 Championships.
The 2025 NCAA DI Men's Golf Selection Show will be on GOLF Channel on Wednesday, April 30 at 1 p.m. EST.
