ASHEVILLE, N.C. – In addition to a pair of opening round wins, Davidson had a trio of wrestlers fall in the consolation semifinals on day one of the 2025 Southern Conference Championships Friday inside Kimmel Arena on the campus of UNC Asheville.
Tyler-Xavier McKnight started the day for the 'Cats at 149 pounds with a 17-5 major decision over VMI's Patrick Jordan. After dropping a hard-fought 4-2 decision to Kaden Keiser (App State) in the semis, the sophomore would suffer a narrow 5-4 setback to Joseph Giordano (Gardner-Webb).
Named to the league's All-Freshman team Thursday, Davidson's Bryce Griffin advanced the semifinals of the 165-pound bracket win a 9-8 victory over Cole Nance of Bellarmine. Like his teammate, Griffin would later fall on the consolation side to Chattanooga's Jackson Hurst, 15-5.
Despite dropping his opening round bout, Marc Koch bounced back with an 8-0 blanking of Andrew Wilson (Gardner-Webb) before dropping a 6-0 decision to The Citadel's Benjy Haubert in the night session.
Savoy New also picked up a victory at 197 pounds for the Wildcats.
The Championships will conclude Saturday beginning with the consolation finals at noon followed by the finals at 2:30 p.m.
Nine squads will compete for the 2025 SoCon title with 13 NCAA allocations available for the NCAA Championships.
