'Cats Split Weekend, Earn 6-1 Senior Day Victory

DAVIDSON - The Davidson men's tennis team split the weekend with a 6-1 Senior Day win over UNC Greensboro Saturday and 7-0 loss on the road to Gardner-Webb Sunday.
The split moves the Wildcats' record to 9-7 overall while they remain 1-0 in the Atlantic 10 conference.
Davidson opened the two-match weekend with an exciting 6-1 home win over in-state rival UNC Greensboro on its home court for Senior Day, where it honored its three-member senior class of Juan Camilo Perez Gongora, Nico Pinzon and Uddayvir Singh.
The veteran duo of Perez Gongora and Singh began the Saturday thriller taking a 6-3 win in No. 2 doubles before Davide Procacci and Nikhil Mukherjee sealed the team point with a 6-3 victory of their on on court three.
In singles competition, Gregorio Hidalgo was the first to score, willing out a 6-1, 7-5 triumph at No. 3. Singh followed with his second win of the afternoon taking his opponent 6-4, 6-3 in front of a booming crowd.
Procacci continued his winning ways in singles as well, defeating his opponent on court five 6-4, 6-4 for the Wildcats' match clinching fourth point.
Shortly after, Perez Gongora battled his way to a hard fought 6-3, 7-6 (7) victory before fellow senior Pinzon rounded out the Senior Day triumphs taking a 7-5, 6-1 (10-7) tiebreaker win, keeping the senior class undefeated on the day.
Sunday saw the 'Cats come up just short in doubles action with Procacci and Mukherjee taking a 6-2 win on court three while Singh and Perez Gongora were narrowly edged 7-6(7) on court two.

Davidson heads back into A-10 play with a pair of road contests in Dayton, Ohio first 12 p.m. April 5 against Saint Louis followed by 10 a.m. April 6 versus Dayton.
