
'Cat Split Sunday in Virginia

DAVIDSON - The Davidson men's tennis team took a 4-0 Atlantic 10 victory over St. Bonaventure Sunday morning before falling 7-0 to non-conference opponent Virginia Tech to close out the weekend doubleheader.Â
The split moves the Wildcats' overall record to 3-1 and its conference record to 1-0 early in the season.Â
"It was a tight match against the Bonnies," said head coach Drew Barrett. "Our No. 2 doubles team had a great comeback to secure the doubles point. Charlie Ratliff and Davide Procacci had quick wins to help lead the way in singles while Uddayvir Singh played great to get the win at No. 1."Â
Davide Procacci and Charlie Ratliff teamed up to take a 6-1 doubles win on court three before the the Bonnies evened the score taking the No. 1 doubles win. Gregorio Hidalgo and Nico Pinzon went on to earn a clutch 7-5 triumph on court two to give the 'Cats the first team point of the match.Â
Ratliff and Procacci continued their winning ways quickly in singles competition with Ratliff winning 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 position and Procacci 6-2, 6-1 on court four to extend the Wildcats advantage to 3-0. Senior Uddayvir Singh sealed the deal on the first match of the day for Davidson taking a convincing 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot ending the match 4-0 for the 'Cats.Â
The Hokies were able to remain undefeated at home with a 7-0 sweep of the Wildcats in the second match Sunday. Juan Camilo Perez Gongora and Singh played a tight doubles match at the No. 1 position, narrowly falling 6-7(4-7)Â by way of tiebreak. Procacci also battled intensely in singles action forcing three full sets on court four before ultimately falling 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 5-7.Â

Davidson will play its third consecutive doubleheader when it hosts Belmont Abbey 9 a.m. and North Carolina Central 4 p.m. Feb. 8.Â
