San Diego Pulls Away from Wildcats Late

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Preseason favorite San Diego closed with 12 unanswered points to get by Davidson, 40-28, in Pioneer Football League action Saturday afternoon from Davidson College Stadium.
 
Tied 28-28 entering the fourth quarter, the Toreros struck multiple times, including with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Dom Nankil to Cole Monach with 4:44 to play.
 
Davidson (1-7, 0-4 PFL), which trailed 28-14 early in the third quarter, responded with consecutive touchdowns from Mason Sheron to even the score for a third time.
 
Despite the setback, the Wildcats' Coulter Cleland finished 15-of-21 for 277 yards and two touchdowns. In addition, Ivan Hoyt had his second straight 100-yard game and third in the last four with seven catches for 115 yards and a score.
 
Hoyt's league-leading eighth touchdown catch came at the 14:10 mark of the second quarter. Teammate Andrew Frazier added one five minutes later on a 67-yard pass from Cleland.
 
In all, Davidson totaled 356 yards, while San Diego (4-4, 2-2 PFL) had 483, including 195 on the ground.
 
Defensively, Danzel Chukwuemeka led the 'Cats with nine tackles, including 1.5 for loss.

Davidson will travel to Morehead State for a 1 p.m. kickoff with the Eagles next Saturday.
