Three Top 10s Highlight Runner-Up Finish for Women’s Cross Country in Opener

ELON, N.C. – Led by Anne Berquist's fifth-place showing, the Davidson women's cross country team opened their 2024 season with a runner-up finish at Elon's "Friday Night Lights".
A senior from Barrington, Ill./Charlotte, N.C., Berquist completed the 4K course in 14:06.7 to lead the Wildcats, who had three Top-10 finishers.
Davidson's Molly Sullivan posted a 14:20.7 to come home ninth, while Abby Smith was six seconds back of her teammate to place 10th in her collegiate debut out of 79 competitors.
The host Phoenix, ranked 13th in the Southeast Region, claimed the team title with their five scored runners grabbing five of the first six spots in the standings.
Abigail Nasse (14:28.2) and Clara Schad (14:30.8) capped the Wildcats' points total finishing 11th and 12th, respectively. In all, Davidson placed seven runners inside the Top-20 rounded out by Elise Boyse (18th / 14:39.3) and Mary Shoop (20th / 14:48.1).
Cross-county rival Charlotte finished third, 37 points back of the 'Cats.

Davidson will travel down I-77 next Friday for the Queens City Invite hosted by Queens University.
