'Cats Fall 3-1 to Duke Friday

DURHAM, N.C. – The Davidson Wildcats battled Duke University for four sets on Friday night, ultimately falling 3-1 to the Blue Devils from inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The match moved the 'Cats to 2-2 on the season, while Duke improved to 2-3.
Jackie Bardin and Isabel Decker paced the Wildcats with 13 kills apiece, swinging .303 and .321, respectively. Emma Slusser added nine kills of her own, while Kayla Davis led the team with a match-best .429 attacking percentage.
Overall, Duke swung .326 and produced nine total blocks while holding the 'Cats to a .222 clip at the net.
After narrowly falling 25-20 in set one, the Wildcats responded in set two with a 25-21 victory. Bardin torched the Blue Devils with five kills on eight swings in the second, while Decker added three kills and six digs to create Davidson's advantage. The Wildcats also swung a match-best .343, leading to their lone set victory of the night.
Despite falling 25-17 in set three, the Wildcats came out of set four with a 15-11 start. But from there, Duke turned on a 9-1 run late in the set to pull ahead 20-16 and ultimately take the lead for good.

Davidson will have another opportunity to compete tomorrow afternoon, when it takes on LSU at 1 p.m. at Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium. The 'Cats will close out the weekend with another 1 p.m. match against Florida International on Sunday, Sept. 8.
