Davidson Swimmers and Divers Get Started Saturday

9/27/2024 6:47:00 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving, Swimming & Diving

Davidson's 2024-25 swimming and diving schedule commences Saturday when the Wildcats compete in two locations.

The Davidson swimmers will visit Queens, while the divers will host UNC Asheville in Cannon Pool. Both events start at 11 a.m.

It's the start of a season that peaks with the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships in February, and Davidson head coach John Young says excitement is high for the first competitions of the year.

"Enthusiasm and perspective are big in these first few meets," he says. "The timer is not near going off yet; we've got a lot of cooking left to do."

Early-morning and late-afternoon practices have been the norm throughout the school year to-date, and Young and his staff like what they've seen in those workouts.

"They've been engaged and eager to ramp-up their training," he says. "The lead-up to this meet is really about getting into a rhythm with training and assessing what capacities and details need attention in the next phase of the season. Saturday's meets will offer great information to that end. It's been fun to start the process with our new team members and to see some of our veterans pick up where they left off. Overall, the vibe is good, and we're optimistic."

TOP RETURNERS
• A standout freestyler, Dylan Felt returns for his junior season after securing his second A-10 Performer of the Year honor last season and swimming in four events at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Indianapolis during the summer. In two college seasons, Felt has captured eight A-10 medals, including four golds. He owns A-10 records in the 500- and 1,650-free and has his name on nine school records, including five individual freestyle marks and four relays. Last year at A-10s, Felt also claimed silver in the 200 free and joined fellow returners Ben McClain, Mitch McClain and Fletcher Smith on a bronze medal 800 free relay.
• Annica Valmassei, now a senior, leads the diving unit. She returns after earning A-10 silver medals in both the 1-meter and 3-meter last season. She also has an A-10 3M championship (2022) on her resume.
• Swimmer Andrew Schou, a senior, earned A-10 bronze in the 100 breast last season.
